There are many different events throughout the year, and they all require you to complete tasks so you can get some type of currency (Lanterns, tools, etc). You use that currency to play a side game to win the main prize of the event. Without the help of a few tricks, some of these tasks can take all day and cost you the main prize. Also, getting distracted from the main prize trying to win little prizes can keep you from getting all the upgrades for a building. A building not fully upgraded is significantly not as good. Often, people spend real world cash to win the prizes because they run out of time or got distracted. Completing events are the best way to advance your city. Below are some of the quests you often see during events, along with tricks to get them done faster without killing your game in the future.
*Please note that screen shots below were taken on mobile device and that the screen is different on a PC.
Continental Map – There are a few events where it will ask you to advance on the continental map. If there is another way to complete the task, do it. There are two issues with advancing on the continental map. You can only go so far before you are unable to go any further, and you can get to a point where you can lose the Reoccurring Quest. Some people are unable to get past this quest because they have already advanced too far on the continental map.
Research a Technology – Researching a technology can cause all kinds of problems if it makes you advance into another age where everything becomes more expensive. You now need to research to get the buildings required for that new age so it will cost a lot of forge points. The requirements for the rest of the quests are harder once moving into the next age also. The Expedition is harder….. If there is another option besides the Research a Technology, do it. Usually, there is an alternative option, but I have bailed out of an event before because I was not willing to research into the next age. When you do research into the next age, always leave something left to research in case of an event requires it.
Buy Forge Points – If there is another task you can do to complete the quest, do it. You can buy forge points with coins and it is extremely easy. I know people who bought forge points every chance they got. Unfortunately, the cost the next time you buy a forge point will be more, then more, then more. I know people who have not completed the event because a single forge point costs them a couple million coins and they need to buy 5 forge points.
Spend Forge Points – You don’t want to spend all of your forge points just before the quest requires you to spend them. One requirement might include spending a certain amount of forge points. If you look ahead and know what is expected, then you will know how many of your forge points you need to refrain from spending in advance. This will save you from spending any of your banked forge points needlessly. As mentioned above, you don’t want to increase the cost of forge points so you can’t complete events in the future so avoid buying forge points. You can however win forge point packs doing the “Unbirthday” quest. See section “Gather Coins or Supplies” for more information on the reoccurring quest. After you play for awhile, you will most likely have millions of coins and supplies. However, if you are not to that point be careful you don’t use all of them doing the “Unbirthday” quest.
Know Your Quest Line – It is a lot easier to complete the quest line if you know what is next. For instance, doing productions for 4 hours can be started early and finished before you get to that quest. Just don’t collect the productions until after you get to that quest. As soon as you finish a production look to see what production is next and get the production started. It is crucial you don’t collect anything before you have to. Watching the icon bounce on top of your tavern can be annoying. However if you collect your tavern then have to collect silver a few quests away, it can keep you from finishing the quest for many hours. I added a link that will show you the quest line for the current event. Just click on the link below.
Gain Happiness – When the quest is to gain a certain amount of happiness, people often think they need to increase their happiness by that amount which can take a long time and result in tearing down a bunch of items you need. You can finish this quest a few different ways. You can simply put up a tree, and as soon as it is finished tear it down and do it again. Each time you do this you will gain a little happiness. The even faster way to do this is to tear up a road and put it back down. I prefer this way because it is so much faster. Please keep in mind the trail does not give any happiness and all other roads cost coins and supplies to build, so make sure you can afford to replace the road before tearing up a lot of it.
Gather Goods from Goods buildings or by Trading – This task can be completed a few different ways fast. The easiest is known as a circular trade or a boomerang trade. Basically, you set a trade for half the amount you need to gather and get a guild member to take it. Then you create another trade that reverses the 1st trade and get the same guild member to take that trade (A for B then B for A). Basically, you end up exactly with what you had and the task is complete. Another option is to look in the market to see if someone has a trade you want. Hopefully a guild member has a trade you want, so you don’t need to pay a forge point to take a friend’s trade. You can also do the Recurring Quest known as the Unbirthday Quest to gain goods, which I will go over in the section “Gather Coins or Supplies.”
Gather Coins or Supplies – If you don’t have a collection coming due anytime soon, you can do the Recurring Quest named the “Unbirthday Quest.” Basically, you pay coins and goods and get a random prize which can be coins, supplies, medals, forge points, or a blueprint from your age, but be careful you don’t run yourself out of coins or supplies. You can do the “Unbirthday Quest” then skip all the other reoccurring quests until you get back around to “Unbirthday Quest” again. Keep count on how many quests you need to skip to get back to it to prevent needing to read each one to know what it is. Take note of what the avatar is so you can easily identify it. You typically only need to skip 6 or 8 of them but don’t worry because they will still be available to do in the future if you like. See the below screen shots showing how it works.
- The left screen shot shows the first screen the avatar changes based on age but the wording says “Unbirthday Party Recurring Quest.” Click OK.
- The center picture shows the next screen. Simply click on the 2 bags to pay the coins and supplies. please note the amount of coins and supplies you need to pay is based on what age/era you are in. The screen shot above is Late Middle Age.
- After you pay the coins and supplies, collect your random reward. Please not the amount of goods, coins, supplies, and medals are increased if you have the the great building Chateau Frontenac. Please click here for information about Chateau Frontenac.
Gain Population – Gaining population can be difficult if you try doing it from buildings from your age, if you are a higher age or if you are trying to do it by leveling up a great building such as a Capital, Innovation Tower, or Habitat. This can take a lot of time and cost a lot of forge points. You don’t need to gain all the population at one time, and you don’t need to keep it. A simple solution is to take a 2×2 space and build a Stilt House from the Bronze Age. It gives you 22 people and only takes a short time to build. With a reduction in time due to my guilds boost, it only takes me 7 seconds to build. As soon as it is built, tear it down and build it again until you gain the population you need to. Be careful that you are tearing down the correct building each time. Tearing down the wrong building can be costly.
Recruit Units – Recruiting units can be a several day task if you are getting them by building them in Barracks. If you are up in the higher ages, it is a lot faster to win them by completing encounters in the Guild Expedition. Just before each turn (big building) the treasure chest has Units in levels 1 through level 3. Level 4 does not have units in these locations. Try to wait until the quest to recruit units comes up before doing the guild expedition.
Collect Incidents – Periodically you get a little prize that pops up on your land. It can be hard to break the habit of collecting these little incidents as soon as they show up in your city. However, if you collect them just before the quest for collecting them shows up, it may cause this simple quest to take all day while you wait to get more. During an Event, I try not to collect any incidents until I go to bed so that by the time I wake up there will be more.
Exchange Goods in Antique Dealer – Just like so many other of the quests. Collecting from the Antiques Dealer just before it is time will cause a huge delay. If you sell items in the Antiques Dealer, you can just let them sit until the quest to exchange goods shows up. As soon as it shows up, collect from the antiques dealer. Some people believe they need to wait for the quest to show up before the start to sell the items. You should always run the sale for 1 day to maximize profit. You can also sell goods at a shorter time, but if you need to do this then sell your junk (Stuff worth little either way).
Do a Production for a Certain Length of Time – The absolute best way to do this is to know your Quest Line (See Know Your Quest Line above). A few things to pay attention to are what kind of buildings are needed. Sometimes they specify it has to be done in a building from your age or the previous age, otherwise most people use Blacksmiths from the Bronze Age because they don’t take long to build, they are cheap, and they are small. In your storage, you may have won a mass supply rush. These can decrease the time productions take. Keep in mind these only work on supply buildings you can build from your technology tree. It does not work on some special event production buildings like Sleigh Builders, Sunken Treasures, and Terrance Farms.
Defeat so many Units or Win Battles – Some people have large Great Buildings for military strength and an Alcatraz to kick out a lot of troops. For these people this quest is easy. If you are not one of these people, I recommend holding off on GE so you can do the first easy battles, or you can attack your weaker neighbors. If you talk to your neighbors, you can possibly work out a deal where you both reduce defensive units for a short period of time, so you can easily win the battle. Hopefully, you can work out a promise not to plunder each other clause also. You can also do attacks in Battleground if you have done enough research and belong to a guild. If the quest is to win battles, see if it says “Without Losing.” Make sure you pick your easiest battles to ensure victory, so you don’t lose all of your success. Your Daily Chest may also require a battle. If that is the case, wait until you get to the Defeat Units or Win Battles quest before doing it.
Build Decorations or Cultural buildings from Your Age or the Previous Age – It is a simple task but remember you don’t need all of them at one time. You can build it, tear it down and repeat until the task is done. It might require a decoration or cultural building from your age or the previous age so make sure you do it with the smallest building possible. When someone aids you, they hit a button and something becomes motivated or polished. You don’t want them to polish or motivate unneeded decorations or cultural buildings. To ensure what you do need is aided, sell off the building instead of leaving it.
Make your people enthusiastic – Making your people enthusiastic means they are 120% happy. You should make sure your people are always 120% happy because it increases the production of your city. You can improve happiness by building more decorations and cultural buildings. You can also build a Great Building that gives you happiness and leveling it up. If you happen to just have extra people, you can improve happiness by reducing unneeded population. If you already have 120% happiness, it will just be instantly done.
